FG Took Responsibilities Of Community Cleasing Regarding Dana Plane Crash
Plane Crash and other disasters in Iju-Ishaga area of the state, the chief priest of the com-munity, Chief Abayomi Ilu-pokiki, has said. Ilupokiki, who is the Olu-wo (chief priest) of Iju-Isha-ga, the Community in which a Dana Plane crashed kill-ing over 155 people, made the disclosure to our cor-respondent in an exclusive interview yesterday. Although he kept mum on the exact amount re-leased by the government to the community, Ilu-pokiki said no fewer than 14 goats, four dogs were offered for sacrifice to ap-pease the gods in the three-day exercise that ended in the wee hours of yesterday. Other items used in the cleansing exercise, accord-ing to him, include two car-tons of schnapps (spirit), four litres of palm oil and several pieces of cola nuts. “Before something of this magnitude takes place, the government must be involved. So, the Community had the sup-port of the government and it was even the govern-ment of our local govern-ment that sponsored the whole exercise. “We killed 14 goats as sacrifice and three of these were rams. We bought two cartons of schnapps, four litres of palm oil and also made use of items such as colanuts and plates,” he said.
The exercise, he said, started on Tuesday, after due consulting Ifa oracle, which gave directions and instruc-tions on the way and man-ner the spiritual cleansing must be carried out.
“We started on Tuesday with a major rite involv-ing sacrifices, which Took place at the Crash site. We also featured Oro (mas-querade) for three nights between 1am and 3am.
In each of these nights, we went round the communi-ty and ended at the Crash site,” Ilupokiki stated. The chief priest how-ever cleared doubts over whether or not the exercise involved human sacrifice.
His words: “We adhered strictly to the instructions given by the Ifa priest and I must let you know that no-body instructed us to offer human beings for sacrifice. Besides, we are in the mod-ern age where no such can be tolerated.
What we are doing is to prevent evils against humanity, so it will be outrageous to shed hu-man blood in the course of doing this, especially when there are alternatives.”
He declared that the ex-ercise was successful as all sacrifices offered had been accepted by the gods, assuring that no evil shall, in effect, befall the com-munity and Lagos State in general in years to come.
The Chairman of the committee in charge of the cleansing exercise, Oniju of Iju Ogundimu Land, Oba Elijah Ebelamu could not be reached at press time as he was said to be busy hold-ing meetings in his palace.
All calls to his Airtel line were also not answered. In the same vein, the Chairman of Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government, Apos-tle Olountoba Oke, could not be reached as he was said to be busy.
