Medical Student( AKS Indigene) Were Given N250m Grants By Gov Akpabio
Akpabio has approved over N250m grant for indigenes of the state studying medicine. The state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, stated this while taking stock of recent government’s activities. Umanah said N250m was approved for Medical students for the 2009/2010 academic session. It will be recalled that Governor Godswill Akpabio reviewed upward the grant hitherto Given to the Medical students as part of measures to assist them financially. With the review, pre-clinical students now receive a grant of N100, 000 against the former N30, 000, while clinical students get the sum of N200, 000 against the former N50, 000.
For the 2009/2010 academic session, over 500 pre-clinical and 900 clinical students are to benefit from the N250m grant.
University of Calabar has the highest beneficiaries with 557 students. University of Uyo has 312. Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, has 144 beneficiaries. University of Port Harcourt has 130.
The others are Madonna University, 92; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, 55; University of Jos, 43; and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, 28, among others.
