Loss Leaves Micho Under Pressure
The head coach of the Amavubi Stars of Rwanda Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojovic has admitted that his side’s 2-0 Loss to the Super Eagles of Nigeria has thrown his future with the team in serious doubt.
Sredojovic has failed to guide the Amavubi to a win in their last six encounters but has promised that he will keep working hard to overturn his team's poor form.
“It’s the longest winless streak in my coaching career but that’s the reality of football,” Sredojovic told Complete Sports just before he led his team back to Rwanda.
"We had our chances in the game and but I think the Eagles were stronger and they took their chances.
“We are still in a transition period and not winning is painful, but this is what you go through when building a team for the future. This team will return to winning ways but it’s disappointing to miss out on qualifying for Africa Nations Cup finals.
“We still need more exposure and experience from our young side to be able to compete with some of the top teams in Africa, and I believe in no distant time, we will be a force to reckon with because that is what we lack at the moment in our team.
If we can have about four to five players playing top quality professional football in Europe, it could make a very big difference.”
A goal in each half by Granada of Spain striker Ikechukwu Uche and CSKA Moscow winger Ahmed Musa handed the Super Eagles the win and ticket to the final round of the qualifiers.
