ICPIA.- Instituted Mobile school for street children
Instituted Mobile school for street children. A Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), the International Centre for children and Peace Initiatives in Africa (ICPIA), has expressed its readiness and commitment to operate a Mobile school for street and homeless children in the country.
Founder and President of the group, Mrs. Abigail Ogbonnaya, who disclosed this to journalists on the group’s awareness and campaign rally against violence to children in Lagos, said they seek to ameliorate the plight of the suffering children and youths in Africa.
She said ICPIA plans to start Mobile schools right there on the streets; for street and homeless children.
“The Mobile school will hold in the area where the children are located, and when their interests develop, we will take them to public schools, where they will associate with the larger society.”
Ogbonnaya said as an NGO with a heart for children, their mission was to provide a platform for every child to have a voice and also to promote awareness among adults, on behalf of the children, to promote and protect the rights of the children.
“We all should see how we will contribute to make this world a better place for the children, as you can see in our placards, “Say no to child neglect;” “Say no to violence against children;” “Say no to child abuse,” etc. We are also trying to see what we can do to support the education of these children, provide food, water and other basic amenities for them.”
Commenting on training, she said “some of the children will be rescued, those that lost interest in going to school, will be provided skills acquisition and training programmes, like carpentry, tailoring and other skills, because we have our partners who are willing to train some of them free of charge.
Also, we intend to have a centre where various programmes and trainings will be made available, and where they will be accommodated.”I
