AKS - Akpabio Flays For Not Executing Contract
Akpabio Flays NDDC For Not Executing Contract . Akwa Ibom State Governor Godswill Akpabio has decried the poor execution of the Eket-Ibeno Road Contract awarded by Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) years ago to Fountain Construction Company.
Speaking yesterday after a closed-door meeting with the NDDC Managing Director, Mr. Chris Oboh, and the Chairman/Managing Director of Mobil Producing Nigeria, Mr. Mark Ward, at the Mobil Guest House in Eket, Akpabio said he was unhappy with the company over the way it constructed the road.
He said: ‘’From the local to the Federal Government levels, people are anxious of development. The NDDC has promised and has actually given out Contract For the road. Years after, little is done. So, the Managing Director came to inspect the road.
‘’There’s hope For the NDDC because the new Managing Director of the commission has shown focus, passion and commitment. For me, this is the turning-point.
“In the past, the NDDC did Not show focus. I would say that the commitment was Not apparent For what I have witnessed.
‘’I went on tour with him on Eket-Ibeno Road because of the strategic nature of that road. More than 2,000 to 3,000 people pass through that road on a daily basis. You are aware that Mobil Operational base is at the QIT which passes through road. The road plays a very important role in the economy of Nigeria when you consider the volume of oil that Mobil pumps out to keep the economy growing’’.
The governor advised indigenous contractors to always execute quality projects, saying: ‘’If you give an indigenous contractor, who is Not experienced and does Not have the right expertise a Contract to execute, it means from day one you are contracting to fail. So, I advise the contractors to go For things they are capable of doing and Not seeing the terrain and take jobs they are Not capable of handling by under-quoting.
