Senate Says Presidency Distorted Facts Over Budget Implementation
Says Presidency Distorted Facts Over Budget Implementation. The Senate yesterday said claims by the Executive that the National Assembly made it impossible for the Implementation of the appropriation bill is a distortion of fact.
The Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu who was reacting to statements by President Goodluck Jonathan during the Democracy Day symposium, stated this while opening a public hearing on a bill seeking to establish the Erosion Control Prevention Commission.
Ekweremadu said there was no room for excuses by the Executive Over the Implementation of the Budget since the legislature did not alter the appropriation bill as presented by the Executive.
He also challenged the Executive to go to the Supreme Court or any court of their choice Over constitutionality of Legislatures role in terms of appropriation for the country.
He said “ my advice to the Executive arm of government is that in matters like this, we should dialogue and find a common ground rather than shifting blames because making of laws is dynamic.”
