25 Dead At Bokinafaso-Mali Border Clash
Dead At Bokinafaso-Mali Border Clash. At least 25 people have been killed in days of tribal clashes over land rights along the Burkina Faso-Mali border, local officials say.
According to the BBC, the violence erupted in the Malian village of Sari between Burkina Faso's Peul ethnic group and the Dogon tribe from Mali.
Most of the victims were Peul, reports say.
The source of tension appears to be the passing of the livestock owned by the Peul through Dogon farming areas.
Under the rule of Mali's ousted President Amadou Toumani Toure, an ethnic Peul, the herders were allowed to cross into the Dogon territory on special paths.
But the Dogon have complained that the livestock has often damaged their crops.
