Kwara Stae Government Built A 600km Road
The Kwara State gov-ernment has said that it Built over 600 kilometers of Road network in the rural areas in the last one year in addition to about 20 roads it inherited from the previous administration. Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Amuda Kannike, stated this yester-day at a joint press briefing by the ministry and that of Education, Water Resourc-es and Energy to flag off the celebration of one year in office of Governor Abdul-fatah Ahmed in Ilorin, the state capital.
Decrying that roads were constructed in Nigeria without planning for main-tenance, Kannike said the Kwara State Government floated an “operation zero pot hole” policy to ensure good maintenance of fed-eral and state roads in the interests of the people.He said the Government also put priority on erecting good drainages to prevent ecological challenges.
The Ministry of Water Resources, in its report, said N1billion was paid to a Chinese firm to lay pipes for water distribution in Ilorin.
The Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Id-ris Garba, said 40 boreholes were sunk across the state in one year, while six others were sunk for military and para-military formations, adding that 38 water works were connected to the Na-tional grid for power.
Garba Also disclosed that another 27 boreholes distributed at 11, 10 and 16 ration were sunk in the Kwara Central, South and North respectively
