behind Lagos State University part-time exam delay – Fosudo
Following recent reactions and protests by students of Lagos State University, External System, (LASUES) against the delay in commencing their 2010/2011 2nd semester exams, the Director, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Lagos State University (CIPPR-LASU), Dr. Sola Fosudo has said that the delay was due to alleged irregularities and financial improprieties bedeviling the system.
He stated that the new administration of Prof. John Obafunwa was doing its best to clean up the anomalies in system, assuring that preparations for the long-awaited exams have commenced.
Fosudo made this known in a chat with Quadlife in his office last Friday. According to him, “when the new VC came, certain revelations were uncovered bordering on irregularities. It’s not only from the angle of the school, so that you won’t think I’m indicting the former Director of External System or the former Vice-Chancellor of financial impropriety.
“At a recent meeting called by the new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, it was discovered that the exact data of students in the external system cannot be ascertained. It was said that the former administration gave the contract of ascertaining students’ data to a contractor.
“For instance, if that person declares that in the external system there are 100,000 students, you will actually discover that we have more than that. The implication is that the University will have to share the amount declared with the proprietors of the external campuses, whereas the exact data of students have not been declared honestly.”
