State To Sanction 27 Principals Over Illegal Fees
The Oyo State government has summoned Over 27 secondary school Principals Over allegations of collecting unauthorised money from pupils.
NEF findings revealed that the Principals are to appear this week before the executive arm of government to explain why they should not be punished Over what was regarded as Illegal money collections.
The Principals were alleged to have flouted government’s directive that nobody should collect Fees from pupils under whatever guise.
But sources said that the money collected which was N100 per each of the pupils was meant to print question papers for examinations and other sundry expenses as the government did not make money available as subvention to that effect.
“It will be unfair for the government to punish these few Principals as the practice is general in all secondary schools in the State because teachers could not be providing their personal money for the purchase of materials to be used for examinations,” a secondary school principal who wanted to remain anonymous said.
He was of the opinion that another step taken by the government as such as the proscription of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) teachers in schools would be counterproductive as there were no sufficient teachers in most of the schools, adding that the PTA teachers were those complementing the efforts of the conventional teachers.
