'Senate Never Benefitted From Pension Loot'
Pension committees of both chambers of the National Assembly did not share From the N8.9 billion Pension fund loot, the Senate has said.
Spokesman of the Senate Enyinnaya Abaribe (PDP, Abia South) yesterday in a statement, described as unfounded, the allegation by a former director of Police Pension Funds, Chief Esai Dangabar, that police Pension funds were shared by top government officials including the National Assembly committees on Pension matters.
Dangabar, who is standing trial along with five others for allegedly stealing police Pension fund was reported to have told EFCC part of the Pension loot was used to bribe members of the Police Pension committees of the National Assembly for the passage of the police Pension fund's budget.
But Abaribe yesterday said, "We suspect that the individual that made the allegation deployed the unfortunate tactics as a desperate ploy to blackmail the National Assembly and hoodwink Nigerians as an odious cover in the light of the sad revelations made in the course of the hearings on the mismanagement of Pension funds, even when no report has been turned in."
