2 Soldiers Injured in Maiduguri Bomb Blast
Bomb explosion which occured yesterday morning leaving two Soldiers injured. According to a report by the BBC Hausa Service, spokesman for JTF, Lt Col Sagir Musa, who confirmed the blast, said that the JTF was yet to make any arrest, and no group or individual has claimed the attack.
The attack came a day after unknown gunmen shot dead an indigene of China in the Gubio market in Maiduguri who was on his way to the market to buy a ram. Residents are complaining of ill and unjust treatment from the JTF. In a related development, uneasy calm trails the Bomb explosions that occurred around 9 o’clock in the morning in three different locations of the city.
The three areas include Gwange, Baga Road and Lagos Street very, close to NUJ House Maiduguri.
Eye witnesses said the explosions which occurred almost simultaneously in the above mentioned areas had adversely paralysed business activities in the city, as shop owners, students, civil servants, as well as Bank workers, were forced to flee their premises for safety.
At the time of filing this report, it was not clear the actual number of casualties recorded in the blast, because there were many versions to the story. Some sources said that about three Boko Haram members were killed by the Joint Task Force (JTF) during the gun duel fight, while the other side of the story was that the JTF also lost one person while others were wounded.
An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said, “when I was coming to post office this morning after that Baga road explosion, I saw some corpses inside the hilux van of the JTF going towards Specialist Hospital Maiduguri. I am sure that they could be Boko Haram members killed by the Operation restore order known as “JTF” the source said.
Also another source who confided in our reporter disclosed that, immediately after the explosion at the Lagos street, the insurgents went on hiding with rocket launchers, and when the men of JTF came to the place to see the extent of damage caused by the blast, the Boko Haram guys fired them with the rocket launchers which as a result, their patrol van was said to have badly damaged while some of them sustained injuries.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get the reaction of the spokesperson of the JTF, Lt Col Sagir Musa failed, as his phone was ringing without response.
