President to present 2013 budget, October 11
present the 2013 budget proposal to the National Assembly on October 11. The new date was reached at the meeting held between the President and the leadership of the National Assembly, yesterday.
The President was earlier scheduled to present the budget today but the execise was put off due to the insistence of the House of Representatives that it has other assignments on that date. It specifically said that it was embarking on oversights of projects to ascertain the level of implementation of this year’s budget by ministries and agencies.
However, the excuse adduced by the House was seen as interpreted by many as an extension of the seeming rift between it and the presidency. A source at the meeting held by the National Assembly leadership and the presidency said they agreed that a new date of the budget presentation will now be October 11.
On whether the issue of acrimony between the National Assembly and the presidency was discussed at the meeting the source who pleaded for anonymity said “it was raised but they agreed that it was not personal. David Mark and Tambuwal told Mr President that they have nothing against him”.
